The
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a very affectionate and loving devoted
dog, which requires them to be a key part of your life. They are always
vigil of your location and insist on being on your lap on a couch.
Cavaliers are still very much spaniels, full of drive and mischief. They
love to go for walks and travel.
We are
members of the AKC Parent Club for the breed- The American Cavalier King Charles
Spaniel Club (ACKCSC), In compliance with these clubs established
breeding recommendations, and more importantly, in an effort to improve
the longevity of the breed, our breeding stock are cleared by specialist
for Heart, Eye's and Patella's.
As with all pure bred
dogs, Cavaliers are not without their genetic problems. The largest
challenge we face in Cavaliers is the occurrence of Mitral Valve Disease
or MVD. Many Cavaliers will acquire MVD in their lifetime.
Carefully selected stock acquired from long lived lines are mated in an
effort to produce a higher number of Cavaliers that do not experience
the onset of MVD. These standards are also aimed at slowing the
progression of MVD once acquired. Most Cavaliers can live for many years
with a low-grade murmur. If faced with a murmur, your Veterinarian will
be able to detect it during your annual visit.
If you are interested in
owning a Jovan Cavalier, puppy or young adult, you should know that all
puppies are sold with a written guarantee of good health. All puppies
receive a routine "well puppy vet exam" from a Veterinarian. In
addition, all puppies are sold on a "restricted or limited" registration
(which means you are unable to register any offspring if produced) along
with a contractual spay/neuter contract.
Grooming needs for
Cavaliers are simple. A routine of bathing combing and brushing will
help keep shedding to a minimum and tangles out of the ears and
feathering. Nail trimming and clipping of the hair between the pads of
the feet will help keep feet clean and comfortable.
For the life of your
Cavalier, we are just a phone call away to assist you in any area of
care, concern or interest. Our home is always open.
